Today is Friday! While that is exciting in itself, it unfortunately is a Friday that comes immediately after another round of pain and erasure of BIPOC (especially femmes) in a social media space that I am involved in. Marcia, one of the loveliest people in that space, started the #FineFemmeFriday hashtag there to not only showcase and love ourselves, but also to do the same for others. With everything going on in that space this week it does not deserve #FFF, so I am making this post in place of that.
My #FineFemmeFriday (well, femmes!) are all of the wonderful femmes I have met in that space. I wandered around aimlessly there for a year and a half until I joined a different server early this year. Since then I have met femmes who are inspiring, supportive, creative; who lead, teach, and love. Despite all of the trash that has made up 2020 thus far, meeting and engaging with them has enriched my life.
That space may seek to continually harm many of them with its complacency and anti-blackness, but no matter what it does it can’t ever take away who they are. Stay fine 😘
