My family’s ties in Puerto Rico are mostly in a city called Vega Baja (located in the municipality of Vega Baja), on the northern shore of the island about a half hour west of San Juan. They were not originally from there, but settled there after moving back to Puerto Rico from Chicago. It became their home, and also became my home away from home.
It’s been 4 years since I’ve been there, one of my uncles has since passed, and I don’t know when I’ll get to visit with the pandemic and everything else going on. Since I miss it, here are some pics from around town, including the amazing bakery cafe that is around the corner from where my great-grandmother (RIP) lived.
